Hey everyone. I have been growing seriously for about a year now. I am currently fighting the rust on a couple of my neps. I wish I had my camera so I could document the process to share since I had a hard time finding definitive information on the process.
I grow mainly tropical species, since I don't have the ability to grow CPs outside. I am the Residence Life Coordinator at a small university outside Kansas City. One of the perks (drawbacks) is that I have to live on campus in an apartment in one of the residence halls and I don't trust all the college students that walk by my outside door not to steal, damage, vomit on, or relieve themselves on a bunch of "cool looking plants!"
I think the ICPS forum is a great idea, as often times I have trouble decoding all the replies on the listserve.

Hmmm, sounds as if you are living a re-make of "Animal House". Does this university town have any area where you could grow in peace? What about a community garden somewhere? Mostly elderly people and parents with kids growing tomatoes and such but you might want to check around to see if there are any expansion possibilities for you. Lots of those community gardens are well monitored. People come out to work their plots and they get to talking and friendships form so they become somewhat protective of what's growing next to them. Don't forget rooftops. Many people grow on roofs. Plants are pretty safe up there.

Yes, unfortunately the school I work at is much smaller compared to many of the larger state schools so we don't have a greenhouse or area devoted to botany and horticulture. I am in the middle of working on a Request for Proposal for new residence hall constructed, and I have often said there should be like a conservatory on the top... or somewhere! Until then, I will just continue to take over my guest bedroom.
JLAP, thanks for the welcome. Have we met before? lol.

That's funny. You really replied fast there! I went back to edit my last post asking you how modship was going and by the time it was posted you had already replied. Someone is on top of the game!
So, Clint, how's the modship going? Tough work?
