Hey Folks,
The UCDavis plant faire approaches. This year it is 6 October, Saturday. (But read for the hint that follows.)
I'm going to be gone for the next few weeks, so won't be able to provided detailed inventory lists, but here are some of the highlights---
Nepenthes land--A nice selection of small beginner plants, like N. ventricosa, N. alata, N. gracilis, and some Victorian hybrids.
Sarracenia land--I think this will be the high point for the sale this year. I divided a large number of our collection plants for this sale. Specimens of all species will be available, including the federally endangered taxa. Also we will be selling some nice cultivars such as Sarracenia leucophylla 'Schnell's Ghost' and Sarracenia leucophylla 'Tarnok.' Also for sale will be nice hybrids. All the Sarracenia are about a year away from flowering size, give or take a bit. Some are HUGE, multi-crowned plants. (We might have some seedlings, but I haven't inspected them yet....we have a big sale inventory!)
Also expect a selection of other carnivores.
Prices are as-yet-undetermined, but will be low because these plants---while fabulous and beautiful---are albatrosses around our necks.
Some rules:
1)You gotta be at the show to buy. We do not do mail order.
2)No reservations of special plants accepted.
8-)THE HINT!
The main sale at the Arboretum nursery is on Saturday, and offers the combined inventory of the UCD Botanical Conservatory and the UC Davis Arboretum.
However, if you are just interested in the offerings of the UCD Botanical Conservatory (i.e. greenhouse plants and the carnivorous plants) you should go to the "presale" which is on Friday, 5 October. Carnivorous plant geeks should go to this because this is the best selection.
A link with some information from the 2006 sale is here:
greenhouse.ucdavis.edu/conservatory/plantfaire/index.html
That has maps, etc.
I might be at the sale, I'm not sure yet.
Proceeds from the Friday Presale go entirely to support the Botanical Conservatory, such as its intern program and computer expenses. Proceeds from the Botanical Conservatory plants at the Saturday sale are shared with the Arboretum.
