More news from Ch'ien Lee about the meeting: The purpose of this conference and exhibition is: - to bring the benefits of an international conference to Malaysia where efforts in conservation and sustainable utilization of Nepenthes are readily applicable. - to aid in bridging the gap between international researchers of Nepenthes by helping to publicize research efforts in Malaysia and elsewhere in the region. - to provide an overview of the current status of Nepenthes in the wild in the Southeast Asian region to enable the establishment of appropriate conservation goals. - to increase public awareness of Nepenthes within Sarawak (and Malaysia) in an effort to aid sustainable utilization. The conference is being hosted jointly by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and the Sarawak Society for Natural Science (SSNS). More details about the event can be found at the website: www.wildborneo.com.my/conference2007Already we have some great speakers confirmed for the event, including Charles Clarke, Jonathan Moran, Anthony Lamb, Shigeo Kurata, and many others including a number of Nepenthes researchers from Malaysia and Indonesia. We are also currently accepting abtracts for presentations, so if you know of anyone who might be interested to contribute, please have them contact me personally.

I'm not sure if the people organizing this conference will read this message here on the ICPS forum. But I have had zero luck in hearing back from them. I've sent three requests for info clarification through their website form, but have heard nothing... the first message was sent over 7 months ago.
The questions I have are related to CITES related to their proposed plant sales, and the ability for participants like myself to bring these plants back to our respective countries.

Anyone going to this from the US that may want to hook up for travel?
I'm in NJ but it seems all the flights out there leave from LA , so we could meet there anyway.

Hi Barry, Thanks for posting the notice about the Nepenthes Summit. Registration is now open and participants can apply at: www.wildborneo.com.my/conference2007/form.htmlI'm not sure if the people organizing this conference will read this message here on the ICPS forum. Very sorry to hear that you received to reply. We had some early problems with the contact form on the conference website and it seems that your emails never came through. If you are still having trouble, please email directly to conference@wildborneo.com.my. To answer your question: yes, foreigners will be able to purchase plants at the Summit (through several vendors) and we have made arrangements so that CITES, Export, and Phytosanitary permits will be issued either immediately or by the end of the Summit. Depending on your home country it may be necessary for you to obtain a general import permit beforehand. Best regards, Ch'ien Lee

Thanks for your update Ch'ien Lee. Yup... technology, just can't rely upon it I've also just received an email from a fellow North American on the same. I received the registration package from you yesterday. I'll be in that part of the world during early summer... now to figure out a way to extend my stay into August to join the summit.
