Hello. I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet. Over at the Carnivorous Plants in the Tropics forum we have a "Plant of the Month" contest for Nepenthes. This was Sam's (Leilani) idea. I think something like that would be great here. We could do it for the different genera or families (in order to include Helis and such). I emailed Bob Z. about this, but haven't heard back. I'm sure he's getting tons of messages. Let me knows what you guys think. Thanks.

Your message was received and the mechanics of running such a contest are currently under consideration. Unfortunately it is not quite so straightforward to organise as it may appear.

I see and duly understand the difficulties of running such an affair. I will keep an eye out on here. Thank you very much.

I would like to second the idea of a contest, I know mannyherrera and other fantastic growers do 'compete' in another forum mainly dedicated to neps, I would love to see the 'best of the best' show off their cp's ; these growers maybe able to share some of their growing tips regards ed

Since this thread was posted, a monthly photo gallery has been started. The gallery is not a contest. It is there to showcase the best of members photographs in particular subject areas.
An actual contest with winners and prizes is not on the cards at present.

Aidan: The monthly photo galleries is nice but they are not open for discussion at all.
I think that was a good idea to implement during the month, but what do you think about allowing discussion in the thread after the month has ended?
Even at the end of the month there still shouldn't be a million "Nice plant" posts but things like "That's a great shot was it growing like that naturally?" or "How old is that plant?"

Sounds reasonable to me, provided comments/questions are added only after the gallery has closed. That way the gallery remains intact and uninterrupted.
