Went to the annual New England Carnivorous Plant Society BBQ hosted by Black Jungle this past weekend. Started off at their store, went to the Hawley Bog, then to a secret roadside bog and then to the BBQ at the Black Jungle Greenhouses. A fun-filled, CP-filled kinda day. There was a brief meeting of NECPS buisiness, but mostly it was Burgers, raffles, sales and all-around good times... Checkout the pics: Took the ferry Grand Rebulic outta Port Jeff to Bridgeport, Conneticut and it was rough seas on the Long Island Sound! You know the seas are rough when it tosses around a boat of this size... In the Belly of the Beast Got up the next day and hit Black Jungle's brick & mortar establishment and here's a few pics of some of their many, many frogs: Beautiful little fellas.. wish I was able to get some better pictures though. Anyways, on to the Bogs!

Onto the Hawley Bog. Turns out they had a big problem with poaching not so long ago. Some unscupulous individual cleared out most of em so Hawley doesn't advertise the fact they have Pitcher Plants anymore... Anyway, pics: Walking through the woods to get there Some Ferns Some Ultrics And look for the fishy on the right-hand side.. heard people say it was a pickerel or sumethin... The Bog Some dead trees Now, for what you've all been waiting for... CP's! Some Dews inbetween the boardwalk Baby Purp inbetween the boardwalk The Purps Nice Flower Some shaded, green guys Some more colorful fellas Some mossy ones That's it for Hawley, on to the next spot!

Next spot is one that Mike & Rich of Black Jungle heard of from someone or something... anyways, some back-mountain road had a crazy-nice Bog right on the side of the road! You can see how close the road is.. One part of the "Field" Another part Lots of big Clumps of Purple Pitcher Plants! More Clumps You can see how some of them look like they're "sunk" into the ground. But it's the moss growing up and around them. There were some Round Dews there too. Hey everybody! Only caught part of the crowd... Just look at em all! A nice group A good-looking plant Another good-looking plant I have more pics of course, the place was just incredible! These are enough for now I'm sure.... Now, onto the BBQ!

Yeah, an I'm that guy... the last to leave still talking about some stupid nonsense.. anyways, hada a great time. The society is made up of some great growers, but more importantly, some great people. Thanks to Mike and Rich for their hospitality and all the great burgers and dogs I skarfed.... Next time I'm up in New England, it's the 2007 NECPS Show!
