Hey Guys, My wife and I have returned from a trip to Europe, where we spent a few weeks in Portugal and southern Spain. We met wonderful CPers on the trip, and toured several sites. The high points include Drosophyllum, Pinguicula lusitanica, and Pinguicula vallisneriifolia. You can see the trip reports here: Portugal: www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq7653.htmlSpain: www.sarracenia.com/faq/faq7654.htmlIn addition to my photography, I've included video snippets throughout. My video work is, shall I say, unsophisticated. But I hope you'll enjoy it! Cheers Barry

Nice photos, thanks for sharing! To put your mind at ease about your appearance to Portuguese drug dealers, you should know that Portugal decriminalized all drugs years ago. I'm told this has resulted in a sort of drug tourism. So, you may have just looked like you were not Portuguese. Happens to everyone.

Apoplast, I dont know where you get that information, but I can assure you that Portugal DIDN'Tdecriminalized all drugs years ago. If you come here with that kind of ideia and act upon it, you my find yourself in a lot of trouble.
In the carnivorous plants subject, it was a pleasure for me and my friends to spend some time with Barry, Beth and Susan. If any of you here are planning to visit Portugal let me know and it will be a pleasure to me to help you visit carnivorous plants spots here in Portugal.
Paulo .

Hi Paulo-
I feel as though I have touched a nerve here. It was not my intention to offend or misinform. Perhaps my information is incorrect, but if so there is a great deal of misinformation about the subject on the net. Starting with Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal_2001_decriminalization_of_drug_use) on down the list.
I recognize that decriminalized ≠ legalized. I am certainly not encouraging the use of drugs or for people to visit Portugal for this purpose. I and friends have simply found that when in Portugal (Madeira excepted) there are many unwanted offers of drugs. I was told this relates to the decriminalization. That's all.
If my experience, and that of others, are incorrectly linked with this legal status of drugs in Portugal, I apologize for believing in the connection. As an outsider, it didn't seem like a leap. My comment was only meant to make light of a humorous anecdote related by Barry on his website (http://www.sarracenia.com/trips/pt012011/im34.html).
And don't worry about my safety. When I've gone to Portugal it has been for the beautiful scenery, the wine, and the amazing food (it really it the most under-appreciated cuisine in the world!).
On another note, thanks for helping show off the wonderful CP flora of your country. Just one more thing to love about Portugal.
