I recently found some Sphagnum growing in some of my pots and want some advice to try and keep it alive and thriving as I've heard that it is a good medium for some plants and just looks nice too! ;D Thank you in advance for any help, Williamg
P.s. I also had some of my still living moss turn a bright red, any ideas on why?
(I have not found a thread about this, but if there is one, please fix my error and point me too it. Thanks!)

Nothing could be simpler. You can grow it in a pot or tray. A little peat or peat/perlite in the bottom of the pot and lay the sphagnum on top. Keep it wet.
Your sphagnum is turning bright red because it's a bright red sphagnum ;D

No substrate is needed. I tried with peat and it grows better without. Use a plastic container without drain holes, put some moss in it and distilled water and cover with clear plastic to allow some light in while keeping humidity up, but don't put it in full sun or you will get sphagnum stew. You can grow it great in an aquarium, don't fill it with water, just a little on bottom. High humidity is the secret. Grow it with your lowland Nepenthes if you're using an aquarium. Just let it grow around the pots. It will cover the bottom of the tank in a couple years just starting with a cup full.
